Time Flies!

I just realized that I haven't posted in ages. The Golden Street show went well. It came down about a week ago. I have a few pieces up right now at Meiklem Kiln Works. And I will be in a new show there opening July 11th. Meiklem Kiln Works is a lovely pottery studio owned by an even lovelier artist, Lyndsay Meiklem. She has lots of interesting classes for adults and kids. Located in Bozrah, CT. I will be part of her Art and Wellness Fair on August 9th. Please stop by!

I hope to have some new pictures soon!

Art and Fashion and Shows, oh my!

American Hybrid
Originally uploaded by stellel

Last night I had an opening with a bunch of other artists at the Watermark in North Stonington, CT. It was a show with an enviromental theme in response to a visit by Australian artist John Dahlsen. He will be speaking at the Mystic Aquarium on Monday night, which ought to be very intresting.

Then on the 29th of March, I will be participating in a fashion show at AS220 in Providence. Organized by my good friends Deb & Eric of
Plan 9 and Demarko Photographic.

And if that wasn’t enough groovy goodness, I was asked to be part of an art show at the Golden Street Gallery in New London. It opens on April 26th. On the same night, across the street at the Muse, the same friends Deb & Eric will be having an opening. Party in the streets!

Gotta go.... I’ve got a lot of work to do!

Vegan Delight Show

I was invited to take part in a book signing/ art show. The book is a lovely collection of Vegan recipes by Jennie Brockett and Kim Abraham. A number of artists were asked to make covers for the book and they were for sale at the book signing. Mine is recycled and overdyed denim with embroidery and other vintage and recycled material. Another great adventure at the Golden Street Gallery in New London. http://www.goldenstreetgallery.com/

Better late than never... the Art Show Report.

I've been meaning to write about this show for a while. Since we took it down two days ago, I think I'm a little late.

These are pieces that collaborated on with my friend Sgott MacKenzie. They are large metal shapes made by Sgott, with hand-dyed and embroidered fabric inserts made by me. They are based on the four suits in a deck of cards.

Here is some other work from Sgott:

These are paintings with large metal frames over them.

Metal squid sculpture.

Sgott's friend Elaine Chung was also in the show. My pictures of her work came out awful, but her drawings are amazing. Here is one of my photos:

You can see better images of her work here.

tili pamodzi all of us together

tili pamodzi all of us together
Originally uploaded by stellel.
Our School, Voluntown Elementary, is raising funds to buy a well for an orphan school called Chikumbuso in Zambia. These are some of the kids from Chikumbuso holding up the bracelets our kids made for them. Tili pamodzi means "all of us together" so the kids where chanting this when the picture was taken. Last night we had a fundraiser which was a silent auction of pottery bowls made by VES kids. We raised $4000.00 of our $6000.00 goal. We are very excited, and hope our Zambian friends will be enjoying clean water soon!

Fashion-Incubator: Another dopey contest

Kathleen, at Fashion Incubator is sponsoring a contest. Although she's calling is "Another Dopey Contest", I don't think it's dopey at all. The contest is "recreating the humble reusable grocery bag". Go, take a look, make some bags, win a contest!
